Scholarship Overview

The Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship award is open to all high school seniors attending an accredited public or private high school in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant and Wise County. Each school may nominate only one student through a process determined by the school. 

Recipients are chosen on the basis of:

  • CHARACTER

  • COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • LEADERSHIP 

  • VARSITY SPORT PARTICIPATION 

Eligibility

  1. Applicant required to be a senior in an accredited public or private high school in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant or Wise County at the time of submission. 

  2. Applicant required to be participating in high school varsity sports. Only UIL, SPC, TAPPS, TCAF, and TSCAAL varsity sports are eligible. 

  3. Applicant required to have a minimum score of 1100 on the SAT (math and reading combined) or a minimum score of 22 on the ACT. The application will be ineligible if this criteria is not met. 

  4. Applicant should possess qualities of leadership as shown through involvement in school, community, religious activities. etc. Offices held, honors received and other evidence of leadership will be considered. 

  5. The granting of this award shall not preclude the receipt of other scholarships, grants or financial aid by the recipient, subject to NCAA rules. Further, the recipient is under no obligation to participate in sports at the college level. 

Scholarship Prize

Five finalists will be selected to move forward to the interview stage. The finalists’ counselors will be notified by phone on November 8th at which time finalists will be scheduled for an interview with the Selection Committee. All finalists must be present for their interviews, as well as, for the High School Scholarship Luncheon on November 19, at which time the 2024 recipient will be announced. The recipient will also be honored at the Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner in February.

The high school scholarship recipient will receive a maximum of $30,000 to be paid over four years, with each year’s payment not to exceed $7,500. Remaining finalists will each receive a $2,500 scholarship. 

All digital applications are due via submission to this website by October 4, 2024.

Application Dates

  • Start Applying

    Starting August 19, applications are available for each school’s nominee. Fill out and upload your application directly on our site.

  • Applications Due

    Applications are due by October 4. Any incomplete applications that have not been submitted online will be returned to your school.

  • Interviews Set

    Finalists will be interviewed on November 13 at the Fort Worth Club in downtown Fort Worth. The finalists will be notified via email.

  • Award Winner

    All finalists will be invited to the 18th Annual Scholarship Luncheon at the Fort Worth Club on November 19 where the winner be announced.
